My withdrawal

Wed Jan 7, 2009, 11:25 AM
The internet has bred a culture of people who expect everything for nothing. They take take take without ever giving as much as a thanks in return, some even have a cheek to make a profit for themselves out of others' works.

I will freely admit that I am not the most talented photographer but I have been ripped several times now. A few of my friends, both on and off of deviantART, who are talented have also had their work ripped on several occasions.

You and/or someone you know may also have been ripped in the past so you will probably realise that reporting these rips can either be difficult to do and more times than not be fruitless. I am still waiting for Yahoo!, the owners of Flickr, to remove one of my photos from there.

While this may be easy for a company with limitless power to achieve, as a skint individual it is infinitely more difficult to do so.

Artists the world over, no matter their speciality, all want to have their work appreciated but it is infuriating to find that other people have stolen these pieces and are reaping the rewards from it. This is even true if you are supplying a free service like stock or wallpaper and it is taken and used without even a thanks.

I am so fed up with this internet culture's leech-like demands that I feel that now I have to announce my departure from posting anything other than quick throwaway snapshots on publicly-accessed galleries such as this one until such times that the copyright owners actually are respected. At this point in time I really doubt that will ever happen.

I shall still frequent deviantART to view the new work of those that I watch, and to favourite the pieces I appreciate, but other than that I have no other reason to be here now.

I would like to thank everyone who favourited and gave positive comments on my work. Maybe I will see you again sometime.

...See there's still a place in me where your fingerprints still rest, your kisses still linger, and your whispers softly echo. It's the place where a part of you will forever be a part of me.
